South Vietnamese Marine Corps Vietnam CUSTOM VNMC TIGER STRIPE CAMO BOONIE HAT
USMC advisors deployed to Vietnam in the late 1950s to train the South Vietnamese Marine Corps in amphibious warfare, river and coastal patrol, fire support, and overall combat effectiveness. The VNMC worked with the Mobile Riverine Force and Brown Water Navy to halt Communist waterborne infiltration in the Mekong Delta, and helped US Marines drive the NVA from the Citadel at Hue during the Tet Offensive. Some VNMC Marines had custom boonie hats tailor made in their classic "Sea Wave" tiger stripe pattern. This South Vietnamese Marine Corps Vietnam CUSTOM VNMC TIGER STRIPE CAMO BOONIE HAT is in very good condition, with a bit of loose seam stitching at the lower right front and back hatband, heavy patina to and some orangish brown soiling around the ventilation grommets at each side of the crown, moderate scattered frayed tearing and some scattered orangish brown spot soiling to the crown lining, and with some light overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the hat is in fine shape, with no other damage to the elegant, silky smooth lightweight 100% cotton twill construction. Most interestingly, it's approximately a US Size 6 3/4, retains a great amount of the vibrant VNMC "Sea Wave" tiger stripe camouflage colors, and sports the classic matching camouflage sewn hatband, two metal ventilation grommets at each side of the crown, and coarse OD cotton crown lining. It's crafted in the traditional "beach ball" style, and is a fine example of a very rare, original South Vietnamese Marine Corps Vietnam CUSTOM VNMC TIGER STRIPE CAMO BOONIE HAT.
